This is one of those books you may read once but then you want to read it again and savour every detail, not missing one word. Book Sneeze so graciously gave me Seeds of Turmoil by Bryant Wright to review and I have to say I would probably never have bought this book on my own, but now that I have read it I have been recommending it to everyone! Why??? First of all it is Biblically based and provides historic answers to so many questions about the past and present in the Middle East. It answers the questions of where did the Muslim beliefs come from; why are they so hostile; why is Israel the target of so much hostility. I am not much of a History Buff and I rarely enjoy reading a book about history, but this book really kept my interest as the author, Bryant Wright interwove the Old Testament into every part of the book. He begins with Abraham and ends with Abraham. The "seeds" spoken of in the title are, as you may have guessed, the descendents of Abraham. His choice to disobey God and not wait for God's promise of a son and, through that son, many descendents caused so much turmoil through Ishmael and his descendents. The book is easily read, but is very detailed in Jewish and Muslim History. The one thing the book lacked is the depth of history of the Christian Church. Overall, I would recommend this to anyone that wants to know the Truth about history in the Middle East.
